from the mind of Ellis

1. In the context of a discussion on evolution and the relation between different species...initially we were both talking, but it sort of degenerated to an Ellis-only rhetorical lecture.
"Yes, zebras and horses are related. They are both mammals. And people? Are we mammals? Yes. Because....do we hatch from eggs? No. We hatch from bellies."

2.
Mom: Did you know there's no school next week and Grandma Lise is coming to visit us?
Ellis: YES! Stay home days! But will I go back to school?
Mom: Yes, you'll have one week of no school and then back to school after that.
Ellis: Aww, I wish no schools would exist.
Mom: Well, if there were no schools, what would you do all day? How would you learn things?
Ellis: Oh, well I guess we'd have to go get the activities from under the smashed down schools.

almost made it to a year

So, Maddox had his first trip to the emergency room a mere 10 days short of his first birthday. He's been kinda crazy since he started walking and constantly testing the limits of his mobility. And he's realized he can go down the stairs now, but has a preference for head first. It probably could've been a lot worse then, than a little cut on the head followed by 4 stitches. They gave him a little shot of ketamine before doing the suturing, so he was pretty goofy for a while. Fortunately, he seems none the worse for the wear.

Otherwise, it's been a busy week, what with the big snow storm and resulting "stay home day" in the middle of the week. Trey and I were beat by Saturday morning, so we tried staying in bed a bit late and Ellis had the run of the house. I guess he wanted to demonstrate that his constructive impulses can be just as damaging as his destructive impulses.
